elocution is an art

 An indispensible principle of effective communication is utilization of a small handful of physical skills. Even though we all speak everyday, effective communication requires learning the art and science of speech. It even requires fitness. Both beginners and previously trained participants will practice these fundamentals of communication:

 1.  Diaphragmatic breathing 2.  Intonation and vowel extension 3.  Sharpening consonant pronunciation 4.  Vocal intensity 5.  Inflectional patterns 6.  Vocal pitch 7.  Rhythm and pacing 8.  Understanding text meaning

 We each have modes of communication when we speak, sometimes conscious but more often unconscious. We often do not realize that we are not effectively communicating because of ignorance about the proper use of the vocal instrument to create sounds that are harmonious and easy to receive. We are not often aware of the sources of our inharmonious vocal patterns, but they can be corrected.
